Care for crews on seagoing vessels port of Rotterdam
Due to all the strict Covid 19 measures, the change of crews on seagoing ships has known severe problems. Now the Russia-Ukraine War adds to this situation. Seafarers who are worried about their loved ones may need a little of additional help. Another conversation, a listening ear and some understanding from third parties or -practically- an extra telephone card to call home can offer relief in such a situation.
Within the Rotterdam Port Welfare Committee a number of organizations offer pastoral and social support on board. RPWC equipped these organisations for their visits on board. RIVM and the GGD gave permission during the covid period to continue the welfare work on board, with the permission of the captain and whenever a crew member requests this.
“The good work that the welfare organizations provide is in the interest of the port ”; Harbourmaster René de Vries, Deltalinqs director Bas Janssen and Robert Bravenboer of VRC call upon Rotterdam’s port business to help organizations that care about the well-being of seafarers.
